When your Frigidaire refrigerator displays the SY CE error code, this means there is a communications issue. This communication problem is caused by either a wiring issue, wire harness issue, faulty control board, or a bad user interface board. Below we will show how to troubleshoot the SY CE error code on a Frigidaire refrigerator.

Frigidaire refrigerator Error Code SY CE: Communication error during powering up.
– This error indicates a problem with wiring to and from the main control board and the user interface board.
– Error can also mean the main control board or user interface board (display board) is defective or faulty.

HINT: To try and clear the SY CE error code the easiest way, try unplugging your Frigidaire Refrigerator for 15 minutes. After 15 minutes plug the refrigerator back in. This may have reset the control board and cleared the error code. If not, see below…

I unplugged all of the main wires on the Main power board and plugged the machine back in. Nothing happened. Put the main board back in and did the same thing with the interface board on the console. Received the error code briefly and then the fridge started operating normally. How do you know which board is at fault?

I came home after being gone a few days. My Frigidaire was flashing SY CE and I found this page. So I used you tube to find the board they speak of. I tried the unplugging advice with no success. I remembered hear dust is bad for these boards. So Once I removed the panel for access. I used a blower on the mother board plugged it back in and it started right up. I hadn’t clean the refrigerator in years so a good air dusting might solve your problem.

Great tips folks! I unplugged my fridge and while i was waiting the 15 minutes, i went ahead and cleaned as much dust out that i could get to from the front and rear. Once I plugged it back in, it started working as expected. Thanks again!

About 2 years ago I started having the same issue with my Kenmore 253.70413411. SY CE on the User Interface. The fridge lights do not come on, but the fridge is still cool. The freezer lights DO come on and the freezer is staying frozen appropriately.

There are no obvious burns on the control board (Board-Main Power 5304504032 / AP5989294), but I replaced it anyways ($250). Initially, it worked fine, but after a few weeks the SY CE issue happened again. I assumed at this point it was the User Interface (User Interface 242048216 / AP5958791) so I bought a refurbished model ($90) replaced it. That did not fix it.

I took off the back and vacuumed out the undercarriage and I also just rechecked all of the wire harness seatings.

If I unplug the fridge for a minute or two, that will sometimes reset the issue and we will have lights and User Interface for a bit, but it never lasts for more than an hour or so.

Back when it was starting to go bad it seemed to be effected by jostling, but I don't that the is the case anymore.

I'm at my wits-end. This this is only 8.5 years old. I'm not really looking forward to dropping another 2k+ on a fridge.
