Kitchen Appliance Fault Codes

Fault codes or error codes for appliances including washing machines, washer dryers, cookers, dishwashers and fridges.

Error codes for Fisher & Paykel Fridge Freezer

  • Product Types: Fridge Freezer

Please do take care to read the information thoroughly as it is there to help you understand fault codes and to keep you safe. There are also some help, tips and hints with a lot of the fault codes published here that you usually will not find anywhere else and, as we learn, we add more information so if you can't find what you need please ask in the forums.

Before using this section please understand that fault or error codes are used as a diagnostic aid, they are not a replacement for diagnostic skill on the part of the person repairing the product and are not in any way usually going to point to the precise component that is faulty. All they do is give you an idea of where to start looking for the fault.

No LED lit.

Issue:
Switch failure in freezer door. Incorrect harness wiring. No power to the PCB.
Advice:
With unit powered, open freezer door. Press freezer door switch in. If freezer light does not turn off, switch is defective. Verify wire colour on 10-pin connector. Refer to Table A above. With unit powered, measure voltage between pin 1 (WH wire) and pin 3 (BK wire) of 10-pin connector. Meter should read 120VAC. Replace switch. Correct wiring. Replace PCB if meter reads 120VAC

No dispenser light when main orWater dispenser switch is pressed in Water, Crush or Ice Mode.

Issue:
No continuity. Failed light bulb or PCB.
Advice:
Disconnect power. Measure continuity between pin 8 (BR wire) of 10-pin connector and dispenser lamp terminal. With unit powered, press the Main dispenser switch. Measure voltage on pin 8 (BR wire) of 10- pin connector. Voltage should read 120 VAC. Repair open connection. Replace dispenser light bulb if voltage reads 120 VAC.

Dispenser light is on without pressing the main or Water switch in Water, Crush or Ice Mode.

Issue:
Failed main dispenser switch (failed short). Failed PCB
Advice:
Disconnect power. Remove both leads from the switch and measure resistance across switch terminals. Resistance should read less than 1 Ω in this position and higher than 10 MΩ when switch is open. With PCB powered, measure voltage on pin 10 (BU wire) of 10-pin connector. Voltage should read 0 VAC. Replace switch. Replace PCB.

Water LED is illuminated but does not dispense water when main dispenser switch is pressed.

Issue:
Failed main dispenser switch (failed open). No continuity.
Advice:
Disconnect power. Remove both leads from the switch and measure resistance across switch terminals. Resistance should read less than 1 Ω in this position and higher than 10 MΩ when switch is open. Disconnect power. Remove the cover of freezer door hinge located on top of the unit and disconnect the connectors. Check pin 9 (OR wire) of 10-pin connector for continuity. Replace switch. Repair open connection.

Water starts to dispense as soon as Water Mode is selected without pressing the main dispenser switch.

Issue:
Failed main dispenser switch (failed short). Failed PCB
Advice:
Disconnect power. Remove both leads from the switch and measure resistance across switch terminals. Resistance should read less than 1 Ω in this position and higher than 10 MΩ when switch is open. With PCB powered, measure voltage on pin 7 (YL wire) of 10-pin connector. Voltage should read 0 VAC. Replace switch. Replace PCB.

Ice LED is illuminated but does not dispense cubed ice when main dispenser switch is pressed.

Issue:
Failed main dispenser switch (failed open). No continuity. Failed auger motoror PCB.
With PCB powered, press the Main dispenser switch. Measure voltage on pin 9 (OR wire) of 10- pin connector. Voltage should read 120VAC. Replace switch. Repair open connection. Replace auger motor if voltage reads 120VAC. If not, replace PCB.

Ice starts to dispense as soon as Ice Mode is selected withoutpressing the main dispenser switch.

Issue:
Failed main dispenser switch (failed short). Failed PCB.
Advice:
Disconnect power. Remove both leads from the switch and measure resistance across switch terminals. Resistance should read higher than 10 MΩ when switch is open and less than 1 Ω when switch is closed. With PCB powered, measure voltage on pin 9 (OR wire) of 10-pin connector. Voltage should read 0 VAC. Replace switch. Replace PCB.

Dispenser operates continuously even when DispenserLock Mode isactivated.

Issue:
Failed PCB.
Advice:
With PCB powered, measure voltage on pin 5 (PK wire) of 10-pin connector. Voltage should read 0 VAC. Replace PCB.

Auto Light Mode does not operate.

Issue:
Failed PCB
Advice:
With PCB powered and Auto Light activated, cover the light sensor. Measure voltage on pin 8 (BR wire) of 10-pin connector. Voltage should read 1/2 the AC power supply (120 VAC). Replace PCB.

Ice or Water dispense rmechanism runs continuously.

Issue:
Failed PCB.
Advice:
With PCB powered, measure voltage on pin 5 (PK wire) of 10-pin connector. Voltage should read 0 VAC. Replace PCB.

Filter Status LED never changes to red.

Issue:
Failed PCB.
Advice:
Verify with the user if unit has been unplugged for a long period. Demonstrate reset operation to customer. Replace water filter and reset Filter Status. Replace PCB if problem continues. Customer education.

Auger motor operates in Ice or Crush Mode but ice door chute never opens.

Issue:
Failed solenoid.
Advice:
Disconnect power. Remove both leads from the solenoid and measure the resistance across solenoid terminals. Resistance should read 101.2 ± 10%. Replace solenoid.

Auger motor operates in Ice or Crush Mode but ice door chute never closes.

Issue:
Failed PCB.
Advice:
Measure voltage on pin 10 (BU wire) of 10-pin connector. Voltage should read approximately 55VDC when ice chute door is open (solenoid energized) or 0VDC when closed (solenoid not energized). Replace PCB.

No LED lit, Water dispenseroperates, augermotor operatesonly in Ice Modeand ice chute doordoes not open orremains open.

Issue:
Failed PCB.
Advice:
Replace PCB.

Neither Water, Crush or Ice LEDwill illuminate butWater, Crush or IceMode operatesproperly whenselected.

Issue:
Failed PCB.
Advice:
Replace PCB.
